Amberle Phillips is a native of Chicago, IL and came to Charleston on a volleyball scholarship at Charleston Southern University (CSU). She earned a B.S. in Kinesiology from CSU in 2011 and an M.S. in Sports Management from The Citadel in 2013. While at The Citadel, she volunteered with the volleyball team.
Amberle returned to Charleston Southern to obtain a second B.S. degree in Athletic Training. While at CSU, she completed an internship with the Charleston Battery Soccer Team. After graduation, Amberle joined the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) as an athletic trainer for Charleston area high schools.
Amberle rotated with Dr. Pappas as an athletic training student and later worked alongside him providing on-field coverage of high school football games. Dr. Pappas was so impressed with Amberle’s work ethic and skills, that he recruited her to join South Carolina Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center in 2019. Initially, Amberle gained valuable experience as a bracing technician and surgery scheduler. Through her commitment to excellence and outstanding patient care, Amberle’s role evolved from medical assistant to clinic manager, athletic trainer, and surgical assistant.
Amberle is a board-certified athletic trainer (ATC) and a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) and the South Carolina Athletic Trainers’ Association (SCATA). She is also board-certified as an Orthopaedic Technologist (OTC) and credentialed as a surgical assistant.
When she’s not treating patients during the week or serving as an athletic trainer on the weekends, Amberle loves to spend time with her husband, Shannon, and their hound dog River. She has been spotted at “The Joe” cheering on her husband as he throws out the first pitch at a Charleston Riverdogs baseball game.
Eric Caloud is a native of Madison, WI where he attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training, he pursued a Master of Science in Sports Medicine at the University of Utah. During his training out West, Eric served as an athletic trainer for the Utes Men's and Women's ice hockey teams. He also became a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS).
After earning his M.S. at the University of Utah, Eric returned to the Midwest and worked as an athletic trainer at a sports medicine clinic in Minnesota. Caring for patients in a clinical setting inspired Eric to continue his medical training and pursue a second Master's Degree in Physician Assistant (PA) Studies at Augsburg University in Minneapolis.
While in PA school, Eric completed an elective rotation with Dr. Pappas and was recruited to join the team at South Carolina Sports Medicine. He was ecstatic to relocate to Charleston and to practice orthopaedic surgery and sports medicine alongside Dr. Pappas.
In his free time, Eric enjoys exploring Charleston with his wife, Lexi, and chasing their energetic puppy, Honey. The strength and conditioning expert always begins his day in the gym and enjoys playing hockey at the Ice Palace. As a proud Madison native, he will not miss an opportunity to cheer for the Wisconsin Badgers and Green Bay Packers.
Sigourney has nearly a decade of experience in orthopedics and developed a strong passion for hip care while earning her doctorate in physical therapy. After joining Dr. Pappas’ hip team in 2020, she played a key role in developing their post-operative hip protocol. Dr. Schipper holds multiple certifications, including: Orthopedic Certified Specialist, Certified Orthopedic Manual Therapist, Trigger Point Dry Needling Certified, and Blood Flow Restriction Trained Therapist. She has delivered numerous presentations on the pre- and post-operative management of hip pain. As a clinical instructor, Dr. Schipper teaches physical therapy doctoral students how to diagnose and treat hip pathology.
Dr. Schipper’s clinical practice focuses almost exclusively on hip pain — 95% of her patients are being treated for non-surgical hip pain or have undergone hip arthroscopy. In her capacity as the lead therapist for Dr. Pappas team, Sigourney regularly collaborates with and advises physical therapists outside of Charleston and co-treats patients who have traveled to undergo hip surgery with Dr. Pappas. Hip arthroscopy patients from outside Charleston will undergo physical therapy with Dr. Schipper when they are in town for clinic visits with Dr. Pappas.
